Great subjects.

Inspiring wildlife subjects are all around you in Threshold Forest and the adjacent lake. Our 25 acres is very secluded, surrounded by vacant lots and just one seasonal neighbour. There are no publicly accessible areas of shoreline on the lake and only a few scattered seasonal cottages. Private forests, two large areas of crown land and the Lost Bay Nature Reserve ensure there is plenty of wild habitat.

Great photos.

The world is made out of photos. Good photographers find good ones. Great photographers find great ones. The difference starts with subjects and in Threshold Forest, beautiful views are everywhere. This view of Snake Island at sunset is just one of the many great photos surrounding you in Threshold Forest. Take a step to cross the threshold from good photographer to great.

Dark skies.

Threshold Forest is located on the north shore of the lake. This gives unobstructed views of the southern sky from the shoreline, offering fantastic opportunities for Milky Way photos on nights in the summer when it is high and bright in the sky during the new moon phases. Sessions are available for astrophotography timed to match up with these 3 key new moon opportunities in 2021.

Really Dark Skies.

On the DarkSiteFinder.com light pollution map, you can see Threshold Forest is located in one of the few dark green zones (zone 10 of 15) in all of eastern North America, the same zone as the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Reserve in Muskoka (which is a 2 1/2 hour drive north of Toronto). Kevin Palmer of DarkSiteFinder recommends “at least a green zone to get a taste of what a truly dark sky can offer.” As you can see, Threshold Forest is in the only dark green zone close to HIghway 401 between London and Montreal, just a 15 minute drive north of the highway. And, we don’t have the bright lights of Kingston interfering with Milky Way views to the south.

Tiny miracles.

Abundant undisturbed areas within Threshold Forest provide perfect habitats including wetlands and lots of deadwood for a wide variety of mushrooms. Both spring and fall seasons offer plentiful opportunities to explore miniature landscapes through the unique perspective of macro photography.
