Explore Threshold Forest!

The forest, within the Frontenac Arch, has been here since the end of the last ice age, about 12,000 years ago. Five separate forest regions meet within the Arch:

  1. the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Forest

  2. the Boreal Forest

  3. the Appalachian Forest

  4. the Atlantic Coastal Forest

  5. the Carolinian Forest

This geology and habitat results in a rich ecosystem of many plant, insect, fungus and animal species, making the region the most biodiverse in all of Canada.

The 25 acre piece I look after was my mother’s until she passed in 2005. Before that, it belonged to my grandfather. He bought a 600 acre working maple syrup farm in 1958 and it has been part of our family’s history since then. Before that, my great, great, great, great grandfather owned a nearby farm and established the first school house and post office in the area of northern Leeds county.

Last year, in May 2020, after owning the land for 15 years and using it as a recreational property (and doing tons of photography here!), my wife, Sara, and I, decided to move here permanently. We also wanted to increase our contribution to protecting nature. In August 2020, I started training as a Certified Forest Therapy guide within the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. In November 2020, I completed 2 years of training as an ordained minister within the Canadian International Metaphysical Ministry. In February 2021, I achieved certification as an ANFT Forest Therapy Guide. And, finally, also in February 2021, I launched Threshold Forest with this website.

Our dream at Threshold Forest is to live in harmony with the land and all the beings here in a form of human development that is socially, culturally, economically and ecologically sustainable for as long as we live here. We invite you to share that dream by visiting us and all the beings of the more than human world in Threshold Forest. We offer forest therapy walks, photography workshops, and wilderness weddings.
